Objectives

CPOTE 2012 Conference organizing within the European Research Center for Energy and New Technologies RECENT is the third international conference on Contemporary Problems of Thermal Engineering.

The first conference under the same name, held in 1998, was dedicated to 50th jubilee of Prof. Szargut’s scientific activity. The second one, held in 2004, was jointed with the celebration of centenary tradition of the Institute of Thermal Technology (ITT) reaching back to the Technical University of Lvov. The present, third CPOTE Conference, will be connected with the celebration of the jubilee of 50 years of academic activities of Professor Andrzej Ziebik.

The conference aims to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of current research activities in the field of energy systems with special focus on environmental and sustainable aspects.

Venue

The Conference will be held in Gliwice, a 200 000 inhabitant town located in Upper Silesia, a densely populated district in the south of Poland. The heart of the founded in 13th century city is the old town area around the market place. An old castle, town hall, gothic and baroque churches, elegant old tenement buildings and parks contribute to the unique atmosphere of this place. Numerous restaurants and several huge shopping centers offer an opportunity to relax. The surrounding rural area is known for its wooden churches, a rare picture in contemporary Europe.

The city is a cradle of modern heavy industry in continental Europe, many of the 18-20th century installations, still in good shape, are accessible to tourists. The Gliwice Radio Tower (118 m), said to be the highest wooden structure in the world, is the landmark of the town. The structure is known in the history as the place where the Nazis staged a Polish attack used then as justification for the invasion of Poland in 1939.

Gliwice is a major applied science and high tech hub in Poland. The Silesian University of Technology with its over 30 thousand enrollment is known as a leading research and higher education institution nationwide.

The conference will be held in the Conference Centre of the University conveniently located within walking distance to the old town and good quality hotels of reasonable prices. The town is easily accessible by air, car and rail. It is conveniently located close to Katowice, Cracow and Ostrava (Czech Republic) airports on a junction of two highways.
