After several months of work on the construction of a light electrical car, students from our university won the 6th place in the race The Greenpower Corporate Challenge 2010, which took place on 25 April 2010 at the racetrack Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, U.K.

The team represented three faculties of the Silesian University of Technology: Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Energy and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. It consisted of: the constructors (Krzysztof Slósarczyk, Wojciech Slósarczyk, Błażej Mika, Krzysztof Kowalski, Jacek Witek), the drivers (Małgorzata Uniwersał, Marta Fijałkowska, Agata Dzidowska) and supervisors of diploma theses (Prof. Marian Błachuta, Prof. Wojciech Skarka, Dr Roman Czyba, Dr Jacek Smołka).

The Silesian University of Technology team struggled to take part in the race until the last moment. During the official training before the race, with heavy rain and the extremely slippery track surface, the car went off the course and was damaged. Luckily, it got to be fixed on time.

Finally, after a successful overtake on the home straight, our team won the 6th place out of 30 teams in the rank. Moreover, the team received a prestigious award Best Engineered Car 2010 given by IMechE organization. During the regular four hours of the race the car made 46 laps on the track, which equals the distance of 176 km. A full coverage of the race course with commentaries can be found on the Greenpower website. Our position is worth noticing in comparison to the 19th place taken by the Jaguar Land Rover car and the 27th of the TagOn Blue car constructed by Cambridge University Eco Team.

Detailed information and photos of the project are on the Silesian Greenpower website. Moreover, many photos and films are in the ITT Photo Gallery.
